To whom do the deceased usually appear in their dreams?

 People are like machines that can receive signals. People with pure hearts, honesty and kindness are more likely to be visited in dreams. It means strong receiving capability and less interference. People who are related by blood are more likely to be visited in dreams. Dreams usually express the need for help, unfulfilled wishes, etc. People who practice cultivation are also more likely to be visited in dreams. They can help the dead. 

 The sixth chapter of the Tathagata Praise in the Sutra of the Original Vow of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva says, “Furthermore, Pu Guang: If all living beings in the future world, whether in dreams or in sleep, see ghosts and gods, and various shapes, they may grieve, cry, be worried, sigh, be afraid, or be terrified. These are all our parents, brothers and sisters, spouses and relatives from our past lives, ten, a hundred, or a thousand past lives, who are in the evil realms and have not been able to escape. There is nowhere to hope for salvation through merit. We should tell our past life relatives and ask them to make arrangements so that they will leave the evil paths. 】My understanding of the dream is that I have something to say to you. I have an schoolmate whose grandmother (or maternal great-grandmother) appeared in her dream after she passed away and said that she was going to become the city god of a certain place. Let her do more good deeds.
