We are often awakened by nightmares in the middle of the night. Although we think it is nothing, not a disease, and we have become accustomed to it, it should be considered a disease because it will have adverse effects on us. Then, which groups of people are more likely to suffer from nightmares? Let's take a look below. Nightmares are very common among children, most commonly in children aged 3-7 years old. A "nightmare" refers to the ability to vividly recall the content of the nightmare after waking up from it. These dreams are always very scary, making the dreaming children extremely anxious. They may be played by demons and monsters, or be chased by bad guys and beasts, or they and their loved ones are on the brink of some disaster. At that time, they want to cry but can't, want to escape but can't, and they are often helpless and breathless. When about to wake up, one often finds that the body and limbs are difficult to move, as if being pressed down by something, and has to struggle several times before becoming fully awake. Nightmares occur during the REM sleep stage when dreams occur. Because REM sleep accounts for a higher proportion of sleep in the second half of the night, nightmares are more likely to occur in the second half of the night. When having a nightmare, the heartbeat and breathing may increase, but there will be no significant autonomic nervous system response. When children wake up from a nightmare, they often cry and say they are scared. Their parents’ comfort can calm them down and help them continue to sleep. Psychologists analyzed that children usually have psychological conflicts and emotional anxiety before having nightmares, or they have watched horror TV, listened to scary stories, and had uncomfortable sleeping positions, such as their noses being covered by blankets or their chests being pressed by quilts. Some children may have difficulty breathing due to a cold, or sleep discomfort due to intestinal parasites, or be too hungry or too full, all of which can induce nightmares. I believe that through our introduction, everyone has a better understanding of this issue. In fact, as long as you stay optimistic and positive, nightmares can be completely avoided. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. If a child has a nightmare, parents should come over immediately to comfort and guide them. Let the children get rid of the fear. Finally, I hope everyone can be healthy and happy.
